doxx.net raises $38M Series A led by a16z to build private networks for AI agents
doxx.net, founded by Prolexic founder Barrett Lyon, raised a $38 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz. It also opened the public beta of its Agentic Defined Networking platform: private, serverless networks for people and AI agents, with DNS-level blocking of malicious destinations. doxx.net, a startup founded in 2025 by Barrett Lyon, has raised a $38 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz. Andreessen Horowitz partner Joel de la Garza joins the company's board. The round was announced on October 1 together with the open beta of the company's platform.
Lyon is a veteran of network defense. He founded DDoS mitigation pioneer Prolexic, later acquired by Akamai, as well as BitGravity and Defense.net, which were bought by Tata Communications and F5 respectively.
doxx.net builds what it calls Agentic Defined Networking: a parallel, private network that runs on the company's own global backbone, with dedicated hardware, its own IP address space, a private naming system and its own certificate authority. Calls, messages and file transfers travel directly between peers rather than through a central server, and users can sign up without an email address or phone number. AI agents can help build and operate the network themselves, connecting devices, setting firewall rules, leasing public IP addresses and establishing private connections under the user's policies.
The security pitch centers on agents that browse, call APIs and move data with their users' accounts and authority. DNS-level protection blocks known and newly detected malicious destinations before a person or agent connects; the company says it has blocked more than 38 million threats since its closed beta began in December 2025. The service has native apps for iOS, macOS and Android, with support for Windows and Linux.
